President Bush signed the tax cut bill Thursday, June 7, 2001. That means that, if you are eligible and have filed your 2000 tax return, your check could be in the mail to you as soon as July 23. The checks are set to be mailed based on the last two digits of your Social Security number. The payment schedule is as follows:
 

                    Last Two Digits of Your                                        Payments Begin
                     Social Security Number                                      the Week of:
 

                            00 to 09                                               July 23
                            10 to 19                                               July 30
                            20 to 29                                               Aug 6
                            30 to 39                                               Aug 13
                            40 to 49                                               Aug 20
                            50 to 59                                               Aug 27
                            60 to 69                                               Sept 3
                            70 to 79                                               Sept 10
                            80 to 89                                               Sept 17
                            90 to 99                                               Sept 24

If you had taxable income last year but will not this year, and receive a refund check, the law specifies that you will not have to return any money even if you are paid more than you are entitled to.
 

If you have moved since you filed last year's return, you should immediately file a change of address form with the U.S. Post Office. The IRS updates its address database weekly from the Postal Service database.
